Lost Loves, The Chase K/f [G]

Disclaimer: Paramount owns Star Trek.  I only own my fantasies.

Summary: Having is not always as satisfying as wanting.

I fled to the cabin--retirement seemed better than battling one more alien invasion.

I rode up into the hills--trying to lose the ghosts that haunted me--calling my name in the quiet.

I saw your silhouette against the sky and my pulse quickened.  You galloped at break-neck speed across the valley--daring me to pursue you.

Much later, I realized, the pleasure was always in the chase--the catching a distant second.  This morning I made your favorite breakfast, a peace-offering to ease the way as I told you I'm returning to Starfleet--the biggest chase of all.
